About us
American Maps & Prints is a collection of Bartele Gallery, an antiquarian dealer in original prints and maps founded by Bartele and Roos Santema. The gallery has two showrooms, in Langweer in Friesland, in the north of the Netherlands, and in Jakarta, both open by appointment.
We deal only in originals. Every map and print on this site was published in the period stated, and most were removed long ago from the atlases, books and periodicals they first appeared in. We catalog, measure and photograph every piece ourselves.
This site gathers the part of our stock that Americans ask us for most: the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean, with a smaller selection of Central and South America. The same pieces are also offered through our other shops, so what you see here is genuinely available, and it comes down here as soon as it sells anywhere.

About Bartele Gallery
Bartele Gallery was founded in Jakarta in 2009. I started it with my wife Roos, and today the gallery has two homes: the Hotel Indonesia Kempinski in Jakarta, and the historic village of Langweer in Friesland, the Netherlands, where the main collection of more than 20,000 maps and prints is kept. Both are open by appointment.
Everything in the gallery is a period original, printed in its own day and never a reproduction. A certificate of authenticity is available on request. Bartele Gallery is a member of the NVvA, the Nederlandsche Vereeniging van Antiquaren, and through it of ILAB, and follows their standards for the trade.
Every piece is packed flat between rigid boards or rolled in a strong tube, and shipped insured and tracked anywhere in the world.
