About this piece
The United States in a school picture series, "Geographical Pictures, Set VII: The United States of America," published by A. Wheaton & Co., Ltd., Educational Publishers, Exeter, around 1929. The sheet shown here is the printed cover or wrapper of the set, in brown ink on pale paper inside an ornamental border, mounted on a brown board.
The cover describes the contents as "A Series of well-chosen Illustrations, truly geographical, with Notes and simple Exercises; also Key Map," edited by C. Midgley, M.Sc., Lecturer in Geography at Selly Park Training College, Birmingham. It lists the other sets of the series, among them Canada and Newfoundland (Set VI), Mexico, Central America and the West Indies (Set VIII) and South America and Antarctica (Set XII), and recommends two companion books on North America by Midgley, both dated 1929.
The sets were prepared for classroom geography teaching in Britain, and the picture sheets themselves, which are not shown here, give illustrated views of the geography of the United States.
