About this piece
Clason's Guide Map of United States, from the "New Census Edition" of Clason's United States Green Guide, published by the Clason Map Company, 1931. The sheet is a large folding map printed on both sides, with the road network on one side and the railroads on the other.
The map shown here has the states outlined in green over a dense gray network of roads, with the title "Clason's Guide Map of United States" and the publisher's imprint in the lower right, above a legend for paved roads, all-weather roads and other thoroughfares. The reverse shows the railroads, with the individual lines named. The sheet was laid into a 32-page guidebook which includes information on the national monuments, a table of distances, and lists of states and cities, with a pictorial cover showing an Indian maiden and priced at 35 cents.
This was the last year in which the Green Guide was published, as the Clason Company fell victim to the Great Depression in 1932.
