About this piece
Eaton, the county seat of Preble County, Ohio, an original town plan from Atlas of Preble County Ohio by C.O. Titus, published in 1871. The sheet is printed in black, with the incorporated area of the town tinted in pink.
The title "Eaton" is lettered across the top. The plan shows the whole town in detail, drawn as a street grid with lots, the names of owners and the outlines of buildings, and a railroad crossing the town diagonally from the upper left to the lower right. Another rail line leaves toward the east, and a creek curves around the southwest edge of the plan. A nursery and open farm lots appear to the north and east of the built-up area. A business directory with a list of county, town and township officers is printed in the lower left corner.
The plan gives a street-level view of the Preble County seat in 1871, and a scale is stated beneath the title.
