About this piece
Town plans of New Westville, Gettysburg, New Hope and Fair Haven, four villages of Preble County, Ohio, on one sheet from Atlas of Preble County Ohio by C.O. Titus, published in 1871. The sheet is printed in black, with each plan tinted in its own color: blue, yellow, pink and green.
Each village is drawn as a street plan with the lots, and with the names of owners and the outlines of buildings marked, and each carries a business directory in small type. New Westville is lettered with its township (Jackson Township), and its plan shows streets named Walnut, Cherry, Sugar and Main. Gettysburg (Jefferson Township) is laid out along the National Road, with its directory printed in the margin. New Hope is a long, diagonal plan, and Fair Haven (Israel Township) lies along a stream, with Mulberry, Walnut, Centre and Cherry streets crossing the main street. Each plan gives its own scale in rods to the inch.
The directories list the physicians, merchants, millers and tradesmen of the villages in 1871.
