About this piece
Town plans of Winchester, Eldorado and Orangeburg, three villages of Preble County, Ohio, on one sheet from Atlas of Preble County Ohio by C.O. Titus, published in 1871. The sheet is printed in black, with each plan tinted in its own color: Winchester in pink and green, Eldorado in green and Orangeburg in yellow.
Winchester (Gratis Township) takes up most of the sheet, with its incorporated area outlined in red and drawn as a grid of streets named North, Franklin, South, Thomas, Mack and Taylor, with Fairview Cemetery marked in green at the left. Eldorado (Monroe Township) is a narrow plan along Main Street, and Orangeburg (Jefferson Township) is a small strip plan along the National Road at the lower right. Lots, owners' names and the outlines of buildings appear throughout, and business directories for each village are printed along the margins.
The directories name the physicians, merchants, millers and craftsmen of the three villages in 1871, and each plan states its scale in rods to the inch.
