About this piece
The southern cone of South America, an original map from an atlas of 1882 published by Blackie & Son. The title block at lower center reads "La Plata, Chili, Paraguay, Uruguay & Patagonia". The map is colored in outline by country, in pink, yellow and green.
The Andes run down the left side of the sheet in dense hachures, with Chile as a narrow strip along the Pacific. The Argentine provinces and the "La Plata" region spread across the center, with the Río de la Plata estuary and the rivers Paraná and Uruguay at the right. Paraguay and Uruguay appear in the upper right and lower right, and Patagonia fills the southern part of the map. An inset at the lower right, titled "Continuation of Chili and Patagonia", carries the southern tip of the continent and Tierra del Fuego.
The sheet is portrait in format, with the scale bars in the title block.
