About this piece
A sailing bill of the Holland America Line, No. 5, dated July 1st, 1925, advertising the route "Southampton to New York (via Halifax)". It is a printed color sheet, not an engraving, with a ship illustration across the top and tables of sailings and fares below.
The illustration, framed in red, shows the S.S. Statendam, lettered "Building", under the company's name, with a pennant at the left and the Stars and Stripes at the right and sailing yachts in the foreground. Under the heading is a table of twin-screw steamers with their tonnage and dates of departure from Southampton, among them the Veendam, Volendam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Ryndam. Minimum rates to New York are listed for first, second and third class, followed by fares to Halifax and for children and servants, and a note on the United States head tax.
Smaller notices at the bottom mention sailings from Boulogne to Cuba and Mexico, a freight service by way of the Panama Canal to the North Pacific coast, and the line's local agents.
