About this piece
Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada as a bird's-eye view, a pictorial map painted by Gerald A. Eddy and published by the Lake Tahoe Sierra Association of Tahoe City, California, around 1945. It is a color lithograph, and the artist's credit appears in the lower right corner.
The lake lies at the center in a basin of ridges and peaks drawn in relief, with California labeled across the foreground and Nevada beyond the lake at the top, so that east lies at the head of the sheet. Roads loop around the shore and over the passes. Settlements, including Carson City, Genoa and Minden on the Nevada side and Reno and Truckee to the north and west, are lettered, along with lakes, ski areas, golf courses and resort points on the shoreline. A cloudy sky fills the horizon at the top.
A title panel at upper left reads "Lake Tahoe Sierra Association, Tahoe City, California" and lists the promotional claims "No Poison Oak, No Rattlesnakes, No Harmful Insects". The sheet was issued as a self-folding tourist map, and the reverse carries period tourism graphics, photographs, visitor information, a road map and a smaller map of the lake, along with the original pictorial cover.
